Hardware requirements
Version 5 of The Boustead Model is a 32-bit application and is therefore designed to
run under the Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT/XP operating systems. This software will not run
under MS-DOS or Windows 3.x. The software will work well with a 500 MHz Pentium II
processor but a minimum RAM (random access memory) size of 128 Mbytes is recommended. The
performance will improve if your machine has higher specified microprocessors (e.g.
MMX-enhanced Intel Pentium II, III or IV, Celeron or AMD-K6-2 or Athlon chipsets) or runs
at clock speeds in excess of 500 MHz.
At initial installation the model occupies approximately 1 Gbyte of hard disc space but
we recommend that you have at least 1.5 Gbytes of hard disc space free prior to
installation. The software has been designed to run at screen resolutions of 800×600 or
higher, therefore your computer display should not be set to resolutions below 800×600.
Networks
Because of the inherent problems associated with
many users operating from a single platform, the Boustead Model is recommended for use by
one person at any time, and should preferably be installed on a stand-alone machine rather
than on a network or a terminal server. Printing is performed using the Windows Print
Manager, and it is advisable to check that you have the current device driver for your
output device installed on your machine (check with your IT department in case of doubt).
Similarly, printing problems are not an issue if the machine on which the Boustead Model
is installed is connected directly to a printer instead of a network printer.
